Kresge, Platt & Abare Focuses on Continuing Education

Kresge, Platt & Abare is proud to announce the completion of continuing education programs by several of our employees. Charlene Hadjis, currently a staff accountant at KPA, has recently been awarded her Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from the University of North Florida.

Bill Abare, Partner at KPA, attended the 2010 Annual Consultants' Conference in Miami hosted by the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts. The conference focused on the issues of business valuations and covered topics regarding valuation methods and approaches to determining value and related discounts or premiums applicable to business valuation, as well as methods applicable to damage awards. This conference also included an intensive study of current updates in valuations in terms of recent court cases settled and new regulations enacted.

Sheila Brown, a Tax Manager and CPA at Kresge, Platt & Abare, attended NYU's Summer Institute in Taxation conference detailing Partnerships and the intricacies of Subchapter K of the Internal Revenue Code. Topics discussed included the nature of partnerships and the various legal entities taxed as partnerships, the relationships between a partnership and its partners, approaches to formation of partnerships, partnership operations and reporting, with particular emphasis on the basics of distribution and allocation of income and deductions.

Ben Platt, Managing Partner, and Geoff LeShane, Tax Manager, attended the 2010 Business Valuation Seminar in Washington, D.C. presented by CPA Associates International. The seminar covered topics including a review of the 2009-2010 federal court cases, estate and valuation issues as well as the implications new healthcare reform will have on medical practice value.
